New South Wales is peppered with airports, so flying is the easiest way to get around if you're traveling long distances. You can score the best fares during the quieter seasons. From Sydney, REX (Regional Express) Airlines services Ballina and Lismore (both about 30 minutes from Byron Bay). Qantas flies into Canberra, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, and Lord Howe Island; its low cost subsidiary Jetstar flies into Ballina, while Virgin Australia goes to Newcastle, Canberra, Port Macquarie, Ballina, and Coffs Harbour.
